Gurney flaps are small vertical surfaces placed perpendicular to the trailing edge on a wing or blade, and significantly improves aerodynamic performance by increasing effective camber and managing flow separation- usually with minimal drag penalty. Invented by Dan Gurney for competitive Motorsport in 1971.
